What is a Houndbite?
A Houndbite is an audio clip from your life.
What is Houndbite.com?
Houndbite.com is a place to listen to and share the audio clips from your life. These Houndbites could be prank calls, inspiring speeches, guitar riffs, or whatever Houndbites fill your life.
How do I search for Houndbites?
Houndbites can be searched by typing keywords into the search toolbar on the Homepage or if you want to search for a certain type of Houndbite you can use the category pull-down and search only within a specified category.
What are Channels?
Channels are series of Houndbites submitted by users. You can use channels to regularly check your favorite members latest submission to his or her series of Houndbites.
What is the Houndbite of the Week?
The Houndbite of the week is the editor's choice of the best submitted Houndbite each week.

Why should I join Houndbite.com?
As a member of Houndbite.com you can, along with listening to Houndbites, post comments on other member's Houndbites, and upload your own audio content.
How do I join Houndbite.com?
To join Houndbite.com go to the Join Page, create a user name and password, fill in the required fields, and click submit.
How do I confirm my email address?
After successfully submitting a user name and password check your email for a new message titled "Welcome to Houndbite" (If you do not see the email after a couple of minutes check your spam box). Then, click the confirm link within the email and you will now be able to sign in with your username and password.
How do I login to Houndbite.com?
Place your user name and password into the fields in the upper-right hand corner of the Homepage, and click Login.
It keeps asking me to login, even though I put in my username and password correctly. What should I do?
If you are unable to login with what you know to be your correct username and password, please ensure that you have cookies turned on.
For Internet Explorer: Go to the "Tools" menu choose "Internet Options" select the "Privacy" tab choose "Advanced" and set "Third Party Cookies" to "Accept".
For Firefox: Go to the "Tools" menu, choose "Options", select the "Privacy" tab, check "Allow Cookies from Sites", click "OK".
For Safari: Go to the "Edit" menu, choose "Preferences", select the "Security" tab, check "Accept Cookies:Only from Sites you Navigate to", click the exit button in the top right-hand corner.
What if I forget my password or username?
If you forgot your password or username click "trouble logging in?" link under the user name and password fields.
To retrieve your password: Type your email address and user name and click submit.
To retrieve your username: Type your email address and click submit.
Can I change my password?
To change your password go to you profile here and enter your current password and your new password twice. Once you save you will be required to enter your new password when you log into Houndbite.com.
What is an RSS feed?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Many websites use RSS feed to update users on new content. The Houndbite of the Week RSS will display the most recent Houndbites of the Week.
How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
There are several ways to subscribe to an RSS feed.
1) RSS feeds can be stored using the subscribe to feed option which will send updates to your favorites bar.
2) RSS feeds can be viewed at 3rd party websites like Google Reader and NetVibes. To view RSS feeds on these websites you must add a subscription and paste the URL http://www.houndbite.com/rss.php into the required field.

How can I submit audio?
After logging in, go to the Share Page. On the Share Page, you will have three options: 1) Upload, 2) Record, 3) Link.
What audio formats work on Houndbite.com?
Only MP3 files can be submitted to Houndbite.com.
How do I convert an audio clip from WAV, M4A, or WMA to MP3?
To convert WAV to MP3 - The freeware program Shuangs WAV to MP3, which can be found here can convert WAV clips to MP3.
To convert WMA to MP3 - The freeware program Jodix WMA to MP3 Converter, which can be found here can convert WMA clips to MP3.
To convert M4A to MP3 - The trial version of AltoMP3 Gold, which can be found here or other trial editions can convert M4A clips to MP3.
Why does my converted Houndbite have a very high pitch (sound like a chipmunk)?
Certain audio converters will cause converted MP3s to have a very high pitch when submitted on Houndbite.com. If you use one of the converters above you should not have this problem.
How do I submit audio using the upload option?
If your audio clip is already an MP3, choose the upload option. Click the browse button and find on the file on your computer. Then click the submit button in the upload box. Uploading may take several moments - do not hit any browser button. When your clip has finished uploading a green check and the words "Uploaded Houndbite successfully received" will appear on the screen.
How large an audio clip can I upload?
You can currently upload an MP3 of 8MB or less.
How do I cut the size of my Houndbite if larger than 8MB?
In order to cut MP3 files into multiple clips you can use the freeware program MP3 Cutter found here.
How do I submit audio using the record option?
You can directly record an audio clip by using a microphone. Most laptops have a built in mic - look for a small hole somewhere that looks like it might be a mini-speaker. Press the "Record" button and your computer will start recording. If you don't hear anything, make sure that both your computer mic and speakers are on. If you are satisfied with your recording (and you have named and told us about your Houndbite), press "Submit".
What is Java and why do I have to download it?
Java is the language that the record option uses to talk to your computer. Most computers come with Java already installed but some do not. Installing Java is very quick and will allow your computer to perform more functions.
How long an audio clip can I record?
You can currently record a clip of 15 minutes or less.
How do I submit audio using a URL link?
If your audio clip is from a website, choose the link option. Copy the URL of the MP3 file and paste it into the field that contains "http://". Then click the submit button. Linking may take several moments - don't hit any browser buttons. When your clip has finished uploading a green check and the words "URL Houndbite successfully received" will appear on the screen.

How do I comment on other member's Houndbites?
To comment you must be logged into Houndbite.com. Once logged in, select the Houndbite which you want to comment on. If you want to leave a text comment, write your subject and body, just like an email, and click submit. If you want to leave an audio comment follow the steps to submit audio content above.
How do I delete other member's comments on my Houndbite?
To delete a comment on your Houndbite, click on your Houndbite and press the red X on any comment you want to delete.
